Practice Philosophy

Dr. Savage believes in a personalized approach to patient care that begins with a thorough interview, examination, and evaluation of radiographic imaging. Responsible pain management includes empowering patients through education, providing safe and effective options, and incorporating a multimodal treatment plan utilizing medications, physical rehabilitation, psychological support, and innovative interventional therapy. This personally-tailored approach helps patients regain their quality of life lost to chronic pain and get back to doing what they love.

J. Keith Troop, M.D.

Although Dr. Troop is an orthopedic "surgeon" practicing in the "The Surgeons Plaza", surgery is only one, and usually the last, treatment used to treat patients. Working with Physician Associate Cody Chambers, multiple modalities are used to relieve the pain of arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis, and nerve compression (like carpal tunnel syndrome). Treatment options include the entire spectrum from the most conservative (therapy, life style changes) to medications, injections to surgery when appropriate. While Dr. Troop's emphasis is joint replacement (hip, knee, shoulder) and sports injuries, he and Mr. Chambers also treat fractures, carpal tunnel syndrome, and "over-use" injuries. Biologics (using healing factors from you own body) are another option used for treating these problems. We are committed to providing the most advanced, proven treatment options.

The History of The Specialty Clinic

The Specialty Clinic is the newest chapter in one of the most remarkable healthcare stories in this part of the country. In 1960, Drs. L.C Veazey and A.A. Hellbaum established the Arthritis Clinic. These two physicians were pioneers in the young field of rheumatology. The Arthritis Clinic became widely respected for the compassionate and comprehensive care offered those with debilitating joint disease. Additional physicians were added making the Clinic the largest rheumatology groups in the country. In 1970, Dr. Robert Troop, MD, PhD became the fifth physician of this unique group. Patients came to Ardmore from over half the states in the Union.

In 1989, Dr. J. Keith Troop joined his father and the 2 other rheumatologists in the clinic at the time, Drs. Winfred Medcalf and Lloyd McArthur. This addition brought Orthopedics into the practice. In 1996(?), Dr. Richard Greisman joined, further expanding the Orthopedic side of the practice.

As the rheumatologists retired, the Clinic evolved into a purely Orthopedic practice. The Arthritis Clinic became The Bone and Joint Clinic of Southern Oklahoma. Property was purchased on 12th Street where The Surgeons Plaza was constructed which, in addition to the Bone and Joint Clinic, included Ardmore Regional Surgery Center, The Foot Clinic (Dr. James McClelland), The Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic (Dr. Scott Dempewolf), and HealthSouth physical therapy (now ExcelTherapy).

In 2020, the practice welcomed Dr. Adam Savage bringing the rapidly growing specialty of Pain Management into the practice. In 2021, the practice re-branded as The Specialty Clinic celebrating the multi-specialty nature of the clinic and reflecting future plans to add additional practitioners in the areas of pain management, orthopedics, spine, and, potentially, coming full circle back to rheumatology.
